Attack vs Defence

If you want to survive longer in fights, being attacked, is it more crittical to have higher defence or attack?
Right now im lvl53
my stats are:
attack: 66
Defence: 53

What makes you win when people attack, your Defence lvl?

THat is what I am asuming and just wanted feedback from the experts here.

My strategy is to really raise my defense and not focus so much on my attack. I do this because when i attack, I try to find the people who have the lowest mob members so you're pretty much guaranteed to win

I forget my exact stats, but my win percentage is at 66.7%

Its not great, but im working on it (i win more than 90 percent of the time when i attack)
